Professional accreditation

This degree is fully accredited by the Surveyors Board of Queensland and is recognised in every Australian state and in New Zealand through reciprocal arrangements. The degree, together with relevant industry experience, enables registration and/or licensing as a cadastral surveyor with the Boards of Surveyors in Australia and New Zealand.

When you graduate, you will be eligible to apply for membership with the Geospatial Council of Australia.

  • Surveyors are in high demand within Australia. When you graduate, you will be equipped for a career as a professional surveyor in areas such as land development, mining and civil construction.
  • You will be able to work in a variety of settings, including property and land development organisations, surveying companies, construction companies, government institutions, mining companies and private consultancy, among many others.

ATAR The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a percentile rank used to assess the results of high-school applicants for undergraduate entry into university. 74.15 80.30
  • Subject pre-requisite: General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4,C), or equivalent. 
  • Assumed knowledge: English (Units 3 & 4, C) and Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent.
  • Recommended prior study: Physics (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Practical experience

As part of this degree, you will need to complete practical experience, where interactive hands-on activities, such as experiments and use of specialist equipment, are undertaken.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this degree.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses. All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

What is a Surveying degree?

The study of surveying focuses on measuring, mapping and recording features of land and surrounding environments using mathematics in conjunction with specialised surveying technology and equipment. During your Bachelor of Surveying study you will develop the expert knowledge needed in Global Navigational Satellite Systems, surveying, local government planning, remove sensing, project management and more.

What are the entry requirements for Bachelor of Surveying (Honours)?

The entry requirements to study a Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) will vary depending on the education provider you choose.

To study a Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) at UniSQ you need to meet a minimum ATAR and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree.

There may also be pre-requisite subjects and recommended prior study, but this will vary depending on which degree you are interested in.
