Professional Experience Placement Team

The Professional Experience Placement Team (PEPT) consists of Placement Officers in Toowoomba and Ipswich. The team members are responsible for securing and arranging suitable placements for students.

Students can contact the Professional Experience Placement Office during business hours on (07) 4631 2974 or via HES.support@unisq.edu.au regarding any placement query.

Course Information

ANP5002 Immunisation Nursing: This course is only available to students who hold current nursing registration with the Australian Health Professional Registration Authority (AHPRA) and are located in Australia.

Communicating placement information to students

The PEPT uses several different methods to communicate information to students:

  • Nursing: Professional Practice Hub (NUR: PPHub)– found on your Study Desk on UConnect once you are enrolled in the program. This contains information about placements, mandatory documents and the placement application process. Please use this as the main source of information for your placements. You will have access to this once you are enrolled.
  • Email – check your emails regularly as we send out reminders about mandatory documents and placements.
  • Students are welcome to contact the PEPT at any time either in person, by phone or email as per the details included above.

It is recommended that students enrol in placement courses (in line with the enrolment pattern) as soon the enrolment opens in order to have complete access to InPlace. Students source their own placement by contacting suitable facilities where they would like to do the placement. The facility must be able to provide placement that meets the requirements of the course.

  • Students must be supervised by either a doctor or an immunisation qualified Registered Nurse
  • There must be the capacity for students to immunise children and adults, and number of clients may depend on facilitator’s discretion in the course of the 6 hour placement.
  • It must be a variety of immunisations (eg. Can’t be a flu vaccination clinic)
  • It must include correct VIVAS documentation processes.
  • The placement can take place over one or 2 days but must be at least 6 hours long
  • The facility must be willing to sign a written agreement with UniSQ
  • If students wish to do placement within current workplace, they must be supervised by someone other than their current supervisor
Students submit their mandatory documents & sourced placement site details via InPlace for UniSQ approval.

UniSQ provides placement preparation timeline to help you to understand the timelines for placement and to help you plan your preparation. You will find this on the Nursing: Professional Practice Hub (Post-graduate section).

ANP5002 is currently only offered over semester two. You will have to enrol for the course early to submit mandatory documents and placement request on InPlace by August/September and complete placement hours by November.

As part of UniSQ’s agreement with placement organisations, the PEPT is required to collect evidence from students showing that they meet placement organisation requirements. UniSQ decides what evidence needs to be provided by students to show that they are compliant.

These are referred to as mandatory documents and need to be submitted via UniSQ's placement management system, InPlace and approved by UniSQ before you will be eligible to undertake a clinical placement. They must be current for the duration of your placement.

Please refer to the attached list of mandatory documents for more information.

In order for the PEPT to be able to finalise a placement for you in the relevant semester, it is recommended that you submit documents sooner rather than later to ensure you can complete the placement within the required timeframe.

Mandatory Document Checklist

‘InPlace’ is the system UniSQ uses to manage placements. You will use this to upload all mandatory documents as well as your placement details. This is a cloud based system which is accessed by you using your assigned UniSQ login and password. A file will be automatically created for you when you enrol in the ANP5002 course.

Students source their own placement by contacting suitable facilities where they would like to attend their placement. The facility must be able to provide the opportunities required as well as an appropriate supervisor for the placement. Once you are enrolled in the course, you will have to contact the Placement Officer to obtain a letter to assist you in sourcing a placement site.

Once you have sourced an appropriate placement, you will need to notify UniSQ through InPlace so that a contract can be organised with the facility if required. You will also need to provide all the required mandatory documents prior to the placement being approved and finalised.

Further direction is available via studydesk on the Nursing Professional Practice Hub once you are enrolled in the course.
