Experience Physics - UV Radiation and the Environment

When
26 JUN 2024
Where
UniSQ Toowoomba

Year 11 and 12 students are invited to join our School Holiday Experience Sessions in June.

Join our Physics Experience session, led by Dr Joanna Turner, Senior Lecturer in Physics at UniSQ, who will discuss how ultraviolet (UV) radiation is one of the most important contributing risk factors for developing skin cancer in Australia, and conversely, how UV radiation exposure is advantageous for other health factors. Using physics as a lens, this session will show how UV exposure varies all year due to different factors and what that means for humans. In addition to this, UV radiation is important to other factors in our environment.

This Experience Session will focus on the physics of understanding our environment, and how physics complements other areas of study, such as chemistry, biology and even art, and provide opportunities to imagine future careers that will benefit from the study of physics.

  • Wednesday 26 June, 9am-12pm, Toowoomba Campus
