The University of Southern Queensland has teamed up with the Australian Futsal Association (AFA) to support athletes and students achieving their sporting and academic goals.
The partnership will make Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre the new home base for South-West Queensland Futsal.
The University will grant SWQ Futsal and its players access to the facilities with University of Southern Queensland students benefiting from educational and student placement opportunities.
Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre will also host major competitions, including next month’s SWQ Futsal Regional School Championships which is expected to attract between 400 to 600 people.
Director of the University's Student Life Peter Munster said having school students and community members on campus would create more opportunities.
“The partnership with AFA will provide a great opportunity for school students to get a taste of life on campus while university students will gain practical experience that will enhance their studies,” Mr Munster said.
South-West Queensland Director of Futsal Chris McLeod said the alliance was a win-win for both organisations and a real benefit to the region.
“The alliance between AFA, which has been the cornerstone of Australian futsal for more than 30 years, and UniSQ is a significant game changer for futsal in South-West Queensland,” Mr McLeod said.
“Having access to the premier indoor facility in the region and access to students’ expertise in their fields, the two bodies will complement each other perfectly in providing opportunity and access to sport and education.”
