The University of Southern Queensland rolled out the welcome mat in Toowoomba over the weekend for an action-packed Open Day.

Over a thousand people from across Queensland flocked to the Garden City on Sunday (August 20) to experience the best of what the University has to offer.

From flight simulations and theatre workshops to CPR challenges and campus tours, the annual event provided a unique opportunity to see careers in action and participate in hands-on activities.

Returning for another year to see the Toowoomba campus sights, budding teacher Erin Walsh said she’s always wanted to study at the University because of her family ties.

“All of my cousins attended the University and they’ve always spoken really highly about their experience,” Miss Walsh said.

“I’m really close with my family so I’ve always had an inkling that this will be the right place for me too,” she said.

With her schooling coming to an end at Assumption College Warwick and a new chapter awaiting her at the University of Southern Queensland, Miss Walsh said the opportunity to walk through her future classrooms and potential accommodation was an A+ experience.

“I came to last year’s Open Day with an open mind – I wasn’t really sure what career I wanted to take,” she said.

“With my heart now set on teaching, I’m so glad I attended again because I was able to meet my lecturers, talk to other students about their journeys and learn about the student life activities I can get involved in.”

With record numbers of prospective students streaming through the campus gates, University of Southern Queensland Marketing Coordinator Georgina Humphrys said this year’s event capped off an exciting Open Day season.

“It’s been wonderful to see our Toowoomba campus come alive with opportunity – we ticked over a thousand people quite early in the day which is a great result,” Mrs Humphrys said.

“All of our activities and information sessions have been filled with future students wanting to learn more about the opportunities that are available,” she said.

“It’s an exciting time for them as they try and navigate what their future looks like beyond high school.”

“We’re just so glad we get to be a part of it.”
