"We are thrilled to bring the wonders of space to families in regional cities."

This National Science Week, iLAuNCH is bringing an array of space family fun activities to Toowoomba and Springfield.

These days day promise a thrilling array of activities that will ignite curiosity and wonder about the vast universe beyond our planet.

Running in Springfield on Sunday 11 August and in Toowoomba on Sunday 18 August from 10am to 2pm, these Space Family Fun Days aim to provide an engaging and educational experience for all ages, fostering a love for space and science in the community.

The Space Family Fun Days, held during the University of Southern Queensland’s Open Days, will feature a variety of interactive activities, including:

  • Rocket Launching: Be immersed in the fascinating world of rocket science as you launch air-powered rockets into the air, gaining valuable insights into the principles of flight along the way.
  • Virtual Reality Space Tours: Experience the wonders of space through immersive VR technology.
  • Space Slime Making: Create your own galactic slime to take home with our slime-tastic workshop.
  • Face Painting: Get your face painted with your stars, rockets or your favourite planets.
  • Solar Observation: Observing the sun’s burning face safely through specially designed telescopes is a fascinating experience. Our expert astronomers can provide a unique daytime viewing of the sun and answer all your questions.
  • Talks from Rocket Scientists: Hear about careers in space by Rocket Scientist and Space Engineer Dr. Matt Richardson.

"We are thrilled to bring the wonders of space to families in regional cities," said Kavanna Trewavas, Marketing and Events Coordinator for iLAuNCH.

"We hope these events may just ignite a spark that turns into a lifelong interest in science and space, and possibly a career in that will help us build the workforce of the future. Creating hands-on activities makes space not only accessible, but exciting for all ages.”

The iLAuNCH Trailblazer have partnered with Inspiring Australia Queensland, supported by the Australian Government, to host these activities for National Science Week - Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology.

These Space Family Fun Days are free events open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their curiosity and enthusiasm along for a day filled with learning and adventure.

Food and beverages will be available on-site, and there will be plenty of opportunities to win space-themed prizes.
