Quite the achievement for Professor Jason Bainbridge!

University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Head of School and Dean of Humanities and Communication Professor Jason Bainbridge has been named a Top 10 award winner in Australia’s most popular short story competition.

Boasting the richest prize pool for a short story contest in the world, The Best Australian Yarn provides writers of all ages and backgrounds with a platform to showcase their creativity and explore their talent as authors and storytellers.

Professor Bainbridge’s Poison Song was selected as a finalist from a record 6,020 entries in this year’s competition.

Underpinned by dreams and sacrifice, his entry explored how the life of a young woman was magically transformed when a man with a piano stopped at a remote petrol station.
