In contemporary culture, the concepts of health and nutrition encompass a diverse array of meanings, often leaving individuals unaware of the essential nutrients required for basic sustainability and repair, and how to obtain them from food. Additionally, the intersection of meat-based dietary practices and their impact on climate change further complicates the issue. This research conducts an in-depth grounded analysis of Australian National, State, and Territory food, drink, and sustainability policy guidelines. The aim is to ascertain the role of plant-based foods in sustainable measures for mitigating global emissions in healthcare and improving food literacy. The study intends to introduce evidence-based research into practice by informing policy reform, disseminating findings through scholarly literature, and guiding further academic inquiry into sustainable plant-based foods in healthcare. Preliminary outcomes are expected to highlight important gaps and inconsistencies in the integration of sustainability policies, particularly regarding plant-based food procurement and its relationship to emission reduction goals.
