This thesis will present a systematic review of the state of the art of spatial digital twins and 3D cadastre, focusing on terminology, practical application, and its nexus. It will follow on from current body of knowledge to clarify the suitability of adopting the proposed CityGML standard in a Digital Twin platform. It will further clarify the technical solutions including its linkage with spatial digital twin framework for developing a 3D spatial cadastre in the Northern Territory with a scope of facilitating exchange of 3D cadastral survey data with other jurisdictions in Australia. It will be extended to identifying challenges for implementation of a 3D spatial cadastre that aligns with the multijurisdictional framework proposed by Atazadeh et al. (2023).
