Rachael Fontana and Tania Fontana-Marshall Scholarship

In 2025, UniSQ will offer one Rachael Fontana and Tania Fontana-Marshall Scholarship to support a student commencing their studies in a bachelor’s degree program.

The scholarship is in loving memory of Rachael Lee Fontana (1985-2009) and Tania Louise Fontana-Marshall (1982-2011).

Rachael attended UniSQ in 2004 where she studied her degree in a Bachelor of Visual Arts and lived a vibrant life on-campus at Steele Rudd College. From an early age, Rachael’s ambition was to become a cartoonist/artist. Although, she did not complete her degree, her enthusiasm and dedication to art assured that her dream was becoming a reality. Unfortunately, her ambition was destroyed by a tragic accident which claimed her and her unborn child in 2009. Two years after Rachael and Reily’s death in 2006, and the devastation from natural disasters of the family farm for the second time in five years, tragedy took hold of Rachael’s elder sister Tania Louise Fontana-Marshall. Tania was beautiful, intelligent and strived for perfection in her work. Tania studied at St Lucia and became a physiotherapist. She specialised in working with children with disabilities in the Toowoomba region, Darwin and Canberra.

Both Rachel and Tania are remembered for their kindness, generosity and benevolence towards those less fortunate than themselves.

This scholarship reflects the joyous experience University life offered Rachael during her studies at UniSQ in Toowoomba, and Tania’s compassion to help others.

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $5000 to be paid in two instalments.
