English language requirements

UniSQ welcomes students from all over the world. To enrol at UniSQ, you will need to meet the minimum English language requirements – this applies to all domestic and international students.

Accepted evidence of English language proficiency

The following qualifications and test results are considered appropriate evidence to meet the English language proficiency requirements for the majority of UniSQ degrees (exceptions for the Bachelor of Nursing and other degree specified below).

  • Completion of Secondary School in a country from the list of Accepted English-speaking countries.
  • Completion of 2+ years of study at Diploma level or higher in a country from the list of Accepted English-speaking countries.*
  • Academic IELTS results of 6.5 or better overall; no subscore lower than a 6.0.*^
  • Successful completion of an approved English pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).
  • Holding current Provisional or Full Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

*Not sufficient for entry into Education, Allied Health, Psychology, or Nursing degrees.
^The IELTS One Skill Retake can be accepted to meet the English language proficiency requirements in conjunction with valid results of a completed Academic IELTS test.

Accepted English-speaking countries

If you are born in any of the following countries, or have completed senior secondary study undertaken in English in any of these countries, UniSQ will consider that you have sufficient English language proficiency to start your degree. Qualifications completed outside of countries on this list can still be considered alongside an application to study on a case-by-case basis.
