Work and life experience

You don't need to have an OP/ATAR or be straight from high school to study at uni. We can convert you work experience, qualifications or high school studies into a selection rank you can use to apply for your chosen degree

Each degree at UniSQ has unique entry requirements that you will need to meet in addition to the selection rank. Check the entry requirements for your preferred degree before applying.

How is your work experience assessed?

To calculate your selection rank based on work experience we assess:

  • a minimum of 6 months full-time paid employment (or part-time equivalent)
  • self-employment

We are unable to assess:

  • unpaid work experience
  • volunteer work
  • apprenticeship and traineeships ‘time-at-work’ component
  • applications from current year 12 students.

QTAC provides further information about using your work experience to gain entry.

To help us assess your application you will be asked to provide:

  • a Curriculum Vitae (CV) or professional LinkedIn profile which includes:
    • organisation name
    • position title
    • start and end dates of employment for each position
    • type of employment (full-time, part-time or casual)
    • key duties, responsibilities and achievements.
    • names, position titles and contact details of referees (employers or supervisors) who will be able to verify the nature of your work for the period of 2 years.
  • a letter from your employer:
    • written on official company letterhead
    • dated
    • including position held details:
      • organisation name
      • position title
      • start and end dates of employment for each position
      • type of employment (full-time, part-time or casual)
      • key duties, responsibilities and achievements.
If you are self-employed, details included in your CV must be verified via a statement from either your accountant, solicitor or tax agent. This should be provided on their official letterhead.
QTAC provides more information on how to apply with employment experience.
