What does a librarian do?

Far from sitting around reading books and shushing people in the library, a librarians’ job is diverse and includes a wide range of duties. A big part of a librarian career is collection development – selecting, sourcing, and organising literary and media items. Librarians also help patrons with finding materials, referencing and research. Additionally, they are often involved in the development of  programs that promote lifelong learning, literacy, and cultural awareness.
