Intractable Problems

Creatively and effectively deal with intractable problems

Leaders need to be able to manage complexity and uncertainty navigating many different moving parts, all within a changing market place and unprecedented change.

This minicourse is about intractable problems, the kind that are persistent, damaging and difficult to resolve. This, course is also then about leadership, as it is people who solve difficult problems, and can also create them. This course has a four-week teaching period requiring a total of approximately 40 hours of learning. All course learning materials are available on demand.

What will you achieve?

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • Apply specialist leadership knowledge to generate a plan to effectively enable teams and individual performance in the workplace.
  • Critically reflect and integrate leader theories that help to build adaptive leader-member relationships.

  • Outlining intractable problems
  • Leadership responses to intractable problems
  • Developing future leaders as problem solvers

Assessment

To be eligible for a digital badge for this course, you will need to successfully complete an assessment which includes:

  • Create a position description for a manager dealing with intractable problems.
  • Create an interview scenario for the position.
  • The optional assessment is due at the beginning of week 7.

  • This level for this microcredential is Proficient.
    The material for this course has been designed for students who have already demonstrated a high level of skill in the subject matter. Students must have relevant experience and/or have studied the course material before (at competent level).
