Meet Lisa Hopkins, who after decades in the food industry, decided it was time to dive into higher education and explore the world of food science.
A chance meeting with Associate Professor Polly Burey from UniSQ changed everything. Polly's enthusiasm for the industry inspired Lisa to enroll in the Tertiary Preparation Pathway (now UniSQ Ready) and later, the Bachelor of Science (Food Science) degree. With Polly's support, Lisa excelled in her studies and joined the NO WASTE pilot program team, focusing on sustainable solutions for food packaging.
“Lisa has been able to contribute ideas related to her topic, which is focused on preventing coated cardboards (wax and polymer coated) going to landfill,” Associate Professor Burey said.
Lisa's hard work and dedication have opened up many opportunities. Her innovative ideas and scientific skills have impressed her mentors, and she's excited about the potential for further research. As Lisa continues her studies, she's eager to see where this new path will take her.
