Naz Gul Nazari is quite inspirational. She moved from Pakistan to Australia with very little English and, for the past four years, she’s been trying to adapt to her new environment.

She graduated from high school in 2020 and knew that she wanted to attend university.

“It was suggested by my school that I study a Tertiary Preparation Pathway program (now called UniSQ Ready) because I needed to improve my English as it is my second language. It would help me reach my goal of being able to study the degree I want,” Naz said.

Naz loves the fact that the University of Southern Queensland is close to home.

“I chose UniSQ because all four of my older siblings are studying here and love it. So I thought, why not? It’s close to home, has a great reputation and I can get a taste of university life.”

What is TPP/UniSQ Ready?

UniSQ Ready is one of UniSQ’s pathway programs which are an excellent way to prepare for university and to gain entry into your dream university degree.

Whether you haven’t studied in a while, need to improve your academic writing skills, or don’t meet the entry requirements, UniSQ Ready provides the fundamentals to ready you for university study.

UniSQ Ready consist of four to eight subjects after which, if completed successfully, you are guaranteed entry into most UniSQ degrees. The minimum requirement is completion of four subjects.

Naz said that after her first semester of UniSQ Ready, she received a GPA of 7 which is the highest uni grade for undergraduate subjects you can achieve.

“This really inspired me to take more subjects. At the end of Semester Two, I will have done five TPP (UniSQ Ready) subjects and applied for the degree I want to study.”

The best thing about TPP/UniSQ Ready?

Naz says, “these pathway programs have shaped a fundamental understanding of the subject areas I will need in future. It has also helped me familiarise myself with academic language which is very essential in studying at university. I got a lot of support and advice on not only my current subjects but on how to approach my future study plans.”
