Simon Playford is immersing himself in the world of law, aiming to learn as much as possible to further his career potential. Through networking as a member of The USQ Student Guild Board of Directors, Simon was able to gain a full-time position shortly after finishing a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business and Commerce at UniSQ. One of the Directors of the Board saw his potential and offered him a position as a graduate lawyer in a boutique law firm in regional QLD.
‘Don’t underestimate the power of networking, being well connected is vital. Employers really value your community involvement, and at UniSQ, the opportunities are bountiful.’
Simon's commitment to giving back goes beyond the board room. The Young Alumnus of the Year (2022) winner has volunteers time to the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and mental health services for young people in the LGBTIQ community.
Mr Playford has also been involved with the Queensland Law Society and the Law Council of Australia's Young Lawyers Committee
Simon is excited to continue developing as a professional, expanding his network, and growing his career.
'I do not think that I would have been able to [achieve what I have] without that business degree.'
'I’m a 100 per cent believer in doubling up – plus how many graduates are in the market at the moment. You have to differentiate yourself as much as you can and show that you have more than just those educational skills.'
