Blue Cards and Working With Children Check

Placements within Queensland

Under Blue Card Services 'No Card, No Start' laws, students attending a professional experience placement in Queensland must hold a valid Blue Card or Exemption Card. Your Blue Card must be valid for your entire placement and cannot be due to expire at any time throughout your placement. For further information regarding Blue Card laws, please see here.

Blue Card applications are now available to be lodged online. You will need to register with blue card services and validate your identification online. If successful, you will be provided an online account number you can enter on InPlace for the Work Integrated Learning team to verify ensuring there are no delays with your placement. Please upload a copy of your card to InPlace once received. You will not be able to commence your placement without a current blue card.

From Monday 31 August 2020 you will be able to lodge your blue card renewal online. You will need to register with blue card services and validate your identification online. If successful, you will be provided an online account number to enter on InPlace for the Work Integrated Learning team to verify ensuring there are no delays with your placement. Please upload a copy of your card to InPlace once received. We recommend you lodge your renewal at least 28 days prior to the expiry of your current card.

Anyone who can’t access the online system can still apply using a paper form. New paper forms will be available on the 31st August and from this date no pre-dated forms will be accepted by Blue Card Services. You can submit your paper form and certified proof of identity to WIL@unisq.edu.au.

Current Blue Card Holders

Blue Card Services require students to link their existing Blue Cards to the University prior to commencing placement. To link your current blue card or exemption card to UniSQ please enter your full blue card/exemption card details on InPlace and upload a copy of your card. Please note, expired cards cannot be linked.

New Blue Card Applications

For new blue card applications via the Blue Card Services Portal onlineyou will need to provide your Blue Card Services Portal Account Number or Blue/Exemption Card Number on InPlace for linking by the WIL Team.

Alternatively to link your Blue Card offline, you can complete a “Link a person to organisation form” and submit the form to WIL@unisq.edu.au for processing.

You can download paper applications from the Blue Card Services website. All current paper based forms can be located here.

If you are undertaking placement outside of Queensland you must ensure that you have a valid clearance for the state you are in, further training/certificates (where applicable) are completed and evidence of this is provided to the Work Integrate Learning Team in order to undertake required placement.

Certain people may be disqualified up front from applying for a working with children check; it is recommended that you contact your local authority regarding this.
