John's path began with an engineering career, one in which he had achieved tremendous success. However, a fascination with human behaviour and helping others compelled him to explore the field of psychology. The transition from engineering to psychology may have appeared daunting, but UniSQ made it a smooth transition for John.
Another factor that supported John's study success was the practical learning aspect. UniSQ provides many ways for students to gain practical experience through internships, placements, and industry projects. This experience for John meant plenty of time across different psychological settings, which enhanced his skills, preparing him for a career a psychologist.
John credited his successful career transition to his studies at UniSQ, which included a placement with Southern Queensland Rural Health (SQRH) and valuable experience gained in a private practice setting.
“When I researched the available programs and spoke with other students, I noticed the UniSQ program had a larger focus on psychological intervention and included additional practical placements, which attracted me to this program above others,” he said.
