Mark has gathered a wealth of experience and knowledge throughout his diverse career in the education sector. In addition to having led eight schools in Queensland, including two international schools, and travelling the world, he has also worked across a variety of industries.

“I left school to pursue a career in music. I studied a creative arts degree and decided to become a professional performer.

“I built a domestic and international career as a performer but deep down, I knew I was a teacher. When I was a bit older, I decided to move to teaching and I’ve never looked back!”

After teaching in the classroom for a number of years, Mark decided to step up into educational leadership, to help him achieve this goal he turned to postgraduate study.

“I knew I wanted to take my learning to a new place and I was keen to engage in research.

“I chose UniSQ based on recommendations from other postgraduate students, they reflected that they were able to apply their learnings about the current thinking in education to their roles.”

After attending UniSQ himself, Mark found he also had a positive experience.

“My postgraduate journey at UniSQ has sharpened my leadership skills, allowed me to gain promotions, and been cathartic for me as a researcher, principal, and educator. Study has allowed me to reflect, learn, and grow.

“The best part of my experience at UniSQ has been working with my doctoral supervisors – they have provided support, belief, encouragement, and guidance through my journey and enabled me to find my voice.”
