From day one Matina Kentrotes knew the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) was the university for her. After being exposed to radio and production in high school through a UniSQ lecturer Matina got to experience first-hand what working in the radio industry would be like.
Fast forward to present day, Matina is studying a Bachelor of Television and Radio Production. Already, Matina has secured a paid position at River 949 radio station in Ipswich through UniSQ’s connections with the industry.
'Within the first few months of studying at UniSQ I secured a job at River 949. I started off with the street team doing promotions, now I’m starting to do panelling, which is where you panel and match the ads in the news segments,' says Matina.
Matina’s transition from high school and into university life has been an easy one. The balance of on-campus and studying online has provided her with the flexibility and independence that she needs.
'At university there’s more flexibility, more people to meet and it’s all on my own terms. I feel more independent and in control of my learning.'
'There’s more opportunity to make connections with industry professionals here. The environment is quite modern. Plus, more hands-on learning. I just don’t think you would get that in a big classroom. So that’s why I chose UniSQ.'
Matina’s message to those looking to attend UniSQ is 'Don’t be afraid to branch out and go to a new campus that offers innovative courses. Plus, UniSQ is one of the top unis for getting a job straight after graduation.'
