Nicole has always been fascinated by what makes people ‘tick’ and passionate about improving the lives of others. Finding the time to study has been a challenge but when her eldest child was completing his university application, Nicole’s interest was piqued by the psychology courses. After doing some research, she applied for the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at UniSQ.
“After taking considerable time off to raise my family and then returning to part-time work in banking, I was keen to reinvent myself in preparation for a new career after my children graduated from school.
“It's been one of the best decisions I've ever made and I wish I had done it sooner,” she said.
There are a lot of study options out there but for Nicole, UniSQ stood out.
“The ability to complete my degree entirely online, with learning that can be flexible around work and family commitments was what attracted me to UniSQ. Knowing I could study online, on campus, part-time, or full-time was also a real bonus,” she said.
Now into her third year of study, Nicole is enjoying her time at UniSQ and finding lifelong friends has been the cherry on top of working towards a tertiary qualification.
“My academic journey at UniSQ has been amazing, the lecturers are supportive and genuinely want students to do well,” she said.
Nicole’s ultimate aim is to become a clinical psychologist before she’s 55 and to anyone else considering study as a mature-aged student she has some sound advice.
“You’re never too old to try something new and put yourself out of your comfort zone. I never thought I would be able to write academically but I have certainly surprised myself, which has increased my confidence. You'll never know if you never give it a go.”
