The Right to Information Act (RTI) and the Information Privacy Act (IP Act) give a right of access to information held by the university. To access or amend your own personal information held by UniSQ an application must be made under the IP Act. Applications for a both personal and non-personal information, or for another person's personal information, are made under the RTI Act.
At UniSQ, Information and Regulatory Lawyer will generally be the Decision Maker in relation to all formal information access applications and will be responsible for discussing your application with you, coordinating searches for documents and ultimately making a decision on whether or not documents can be released.
Request for access
A single application form is available for access applications under both the RTI Act and the IP Act. To request access:
- Fill in an application form. Please provide as much information as you can as this will enable us to identify the documents of interest to you.
- Send your application to rti-privacy@unisq.edu.au, or deliver your application to Legal Services which is located on Level 5, S Block, Toowoomba Campus.
- The Information and Regulatory Lawyer will contact you to acknowledge receipt of your application within 10 business days.
Processing timeframe
Generally, applications are processed within 25 business days. From time to time this time frame may be longer (for example, if we are required to consult with an external third party or if we need to liaise with you to clarify the scope of your application).
Fees and charges
Under the RTI Act, an application fee of $55.75 is payable when the application is made, or as soon as possible after. There are no charges for applications made under the IP Act.

Payment can be made via the UniSQ Online Payment Gateway. If you need an alternative way to pay this fee, please let the Information and Regulatory Lawyer know when you lodge your application.
Rights of review
All applicants have a right to apply for a review if not satisfied with the University's decision in relation to their application. Applications for internal review should be directed to rti-privacy@unisq.edu.au at first instance. Applications for external review must be made directly to the Queensland Office of the Information Commissioner.
Disclosure log
The University's Disclosure Log provides access to released documents (non-personal information only) that have been assessed through the formal information access process. The purpose of a disclosure log is to make individual releases of information under the RTI Act available to the widest possible audience. 'Personal affairs' information, including an individual's name (such as the applicant), will not be published.
