Reading List best practice

Structuring Course Reading lists by breaking resources into sections is an effective way to organise readings by module, theme or assessment task.

To add sections to a Reading list:

  1. select 'New Section' in the Reading list
  2. enter a title for the section and complete details as needed. Note that not all details are mandatory
  3. select 'Add Items' or skip this step to add items later
  4. select 'Create' to complete the section

Items can be added to a section at any stage by selecting the ellipsis next to the section and choosing 'Add Items'

Sections can be indented and re-arranged by hovering over each section and selecting the relevant menu options.

Accessing Reading List analytics provides an overview of student engagement with the Course Readings at both the list and individual citation levels.

To view Reading list analytics;

  1. select the graph icon from the Reading list menu. An icon will appear at the bottom of the screen indicating Analytics Mode is on
  2. view analytics for the whole Reading list by selecting 'Display list analysis'
  3. view individual citations to see the analytics for each item

To turn Analytics Mode off, select the graph icon again.

Before publishing the final list, Course Examiners can view the Reading list as a student to make sure the list displays resources as intended.

To view the list as a student:

  1. select the ellipsis next the Reading list title
  2. select 'View list as a student.' An icon at the bottom of the screen will indicate 'Student view mode' is on.

To close Student view mode, select the 'x' on the icon banner at the bottom of the page.

Course Reading lists are automatically rolled over from the most recent Course offering by the Library when creating the list for an upcoming offering.

It is important that Course Examiners check that the Course Specifications for their course are up to date and reflect the correct required text for each offering.

Additional and Recommended readings should be reviewed for currency before the course begins. Readings that are no longer required can be removed from the list by the Course Examiner.
