  • Do you have a passion for words? Develop the skills to make a mark on the modern world of publishing.
  • In addition to enhancing your editing and writing skills, you will learn book project management, book marketing and how to manage your own freelance editing or publishing business. 
  • As part of your studies you will complete a digital internship, where you will work with a publisher or book industry organisation on a digital book, magazine project or literary event. 
  • You will graduate ready to join the creative and dynamic field of editing and publishing with practical, real-world knowledge of the industry.

Further study

After completing the Graduate Diploma of Editing and Publishing, you have the option to take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Master of Editing and Publishing.

Career outcomes

  • Graduates of this degree may work as editing and publishing professionals in corporate, government and academic organisations across traditional and digital platforms.
  • Other graduates may also choose to freelance and work as copywriter or copy editors, proof readers and promotion specialists. Many practitioners move between in-house and freelance work over the course of their careers.

Entry requirements

  • Approved bachelor degree, or equivalent, in the area of creative writing, English, or other equivalent discipline.
  • For candidates with a bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a non-related discipline, UniSQ’s Graduate Certificate of Editing and Publishing can provide a pathway into the Graduate Diploma of Editing and Publishing.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
