Overview

  • The Master of Education is a coursework program designed for diverse professional contexts and offering a possible pathway into the UniSQ Doctor of Philosophy.
  • The degree will enable you to extend and master your professional knowledge and understanding of the latest developments in national and global educational issues.  
  • You will develop your ability to evaluate and critically reflect on evidence-based practice whilst enhancing your research skills. You will contextualise theory and practice in community, professional and workplace contexts while critically reflecting on current educational practices with a view to effecting change. 
  • Within your major choose from a research pathway where you will undertake a project focusing on your chosen area of teaching and education, or opt for the coursework pathway where you can combine courses to shape a degree to suit your professional interests.  
  • This specialisation does not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. You can qualify for teacher registration in Queensland with the Master of Learning and Teaching (Early Years), Master of Learning and Teaching (Primary) or Master of Learning and Teaching (Secondary).

Career outcomes

  • This degree aims to develop professional educators with specialist knowledge and capabilities. You will graduate with the skills necessary to make contributions as an educator, leader, researcher or consultant in a range of traditional and non-traditional educational environments.  
 

Entry requirements 

  • Approved bachelor degree, or equivalent, in Education.
  • Candidates with a bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a non-related discipline may be eligible for entry into UniSQ's Graduate Certificate of Education. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they may apply for entry into the Master of Education.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with a minimum 6.0 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study with our English language partner, the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
