Graduation ceremonies
Once you receive your Congratulations! email letting you know you are ‘eligible to graduate’, you can start thinking about your ceremony!
Attending a ceremony is not compulsory but is a great way to celebrate your achievement with loved ones and friends. Your testamur (degree) includes your conferral date and is awarded whether you choose to attend a ceremony or not.
When will my ceremony be?
In 2025, there are four rounds of graduation ceremonies available to attend, depending on when you finish your studies. Please note, your chosen ceremony must be within 12 months of the conferral date on your testamur (degree). The first ceremonies of the year in Toowoomba are now open for registration.
All ceremonies will have graduates from all disciplines. If you’d like to graduate with more of your peers and academic staff present, we’d recommend choosing your discipline-named ceremony if possible. For example, Bachelor of Nursing students could choose the Health and Community discipline ceremony. Disciplines are listed next to the individual ceremonies. If you are unsure which discipline you belong to, please email support@unisq.edu.au or contact us on 1800 007 252.
Please note, if you, or any invited guests, make any travel plans before you receive your invitation, please ensure these are flexible as we are unable to guarantee your ceremony place until you have registered.

Registering for your graduation ceremony
Once you are eligible to attend a ceremony, you will receive an invitation via your student email to register and pay your ceremony fee (AUD150). It’s important that you get in quickly and register for your chosen ceremony when you receive your invitation as places are limited.
Your AUD150 Ceremony Fee includes your loaned academic dress, light refreshments for you and your up to 5 guests, and ceremony print program/s. After the ceremony you'll keep your mortarboard or Doctoral bonnet & chord.
Your maximum number of guest tickets for your ceremony is 5, and this includes children. Babies under 12 months do not require a guest ticket but must sit on a guest's lap. Prams may enter the event precinct but are not permitted inside the ceremony.
If you receive an invitation for a ceremony but wish to attend a future ceremony instead, you do not need to respond and can wait for a future ceremony invitation. Please note, your chosen ceremony must be within 12 months of the conferral date on your testamur (degree). Again, we stress that places are limited at each ceremony so you will need to register quickly, as we are unable to guarantee your place in a future ceremony.
If you've previously registered for a ceremony and cancelled, you'll be unable to register online yourself. Instead, email graduations@unisq.edu.au requesting a 'manual ceremony registration' and remember to include your preferred ceremony date and time.
Some graduates may urgently require a Ceremony Invitation Letter Request form to apply for a visa so they can attend a ceremony themselves, or support family member visa applications.
Follow the two steps below to complete your registration.
- Log in to UConnect.
- Go to your Student Centre and click on the Graduations tile.
- Select your program from the list with ‘Deferred Graduation Ceremony’ in brackets. Please note, this will only be visible once you have completed your academic program and received a Congratulations! email.
- Under ‘Outstanding Graduation Registrations’, select the program you wish to attend a graduation ceremony for.
- Select ‘I would like to attend a Graduation Ceremony’.
- Next you will need to confirm your details. Click the ‘start’ button to begin.
- Read through the terms listed in the Collection Notice and, if you are happy to agree, click ‘Accept’.
- Next you will be provided with a list of graduation ceremonies available to you. Select the ceremony time you would like to attend.
- The next step relates to guest tickets and academic dress sizing. You do not need to complete these details and can move to the next step.
- Check the details in your Graduation Registration Summary are correct and click ‘Submit’.
- Click on the ‘Make a Payment’ button to pay your AUD150 Ceremony Fee. Check out how to make payment via other methods.
If you start your registration and would like to make changes, you can do so while the status is ‘Pending’ and after you have completed the first three steps of your Graduate Response. To discard your partially completed registration, click on the ‘Actions List’ icon at the top of your page and select ‘Discard’.
Once you click 'Submit' on your registration, you are unable to make changes. If you need to withdraw or change to another ceremony, contact the Completions Office via graduations@unisq.edu.au or phone 1800 007 252 (Freecall).
Two weeks before your ceremony, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your details and review your tickets via the Reed Events Portal.

Frequently asked questions
After Results Release in your final study period and once your academic program completion has been processed, you’ll receive a 'Congratulations!' email to your UMail address. This email will confirm you’re officially a ‘graduand’.
There may be a delay in your completion being processed and receiving your Congratulations! email if you’ve had a delayed placement, need to resubmit assessment, sit a supplementary examination, need to provide cross-institutional study grades, are awaiting LANTITE results, or have unpaid fees. Please email support@unisq.edu.au if you believe you should have received your Congratulations! email but haven’t.
In 2025, we’re moving back to our pre-COVID ceremonies model after having provided additional ceremonies from 2021 – 2024 for graduates who missed out on ceremonies during COVID-19.
We are excited to also offer our graduates the opportunity to attend a Brisbane ceremony. We know many of our graduates are based around Australia and overseas, so we’re offering yet another location to celebrate.
Some graduates may require a Ceremony Invitation Letter Request form to apply for a visa so they can attend themselves, or support family member visa applications.
Sharing this special day with your loved ones and supporters is a great way to celebrate.
As a graduate, you can bring a maximum of five guests to your graduation ceremony. Children over 12 months must have a guest ticket. Please note, babies under 12 months do not require a guest ticket but must sit on a guest's lap. Prams may enter the event precinct but are not permitted inside the ceremony.
There are no additional guest tickets available.
The day of your ceremony is exciting, but also busy! If you haven’t been to a graduation ceremony before, check out the recordings of our past ceremonies so you know what to expect.
To make your day as enjoyable as possible, we’ve put together a list of things to know and bring on the day as well as approximate timelines.
Before the day checklist
- Make sure you and your guests have a copy of your tickets, either print these out or have them ready on your phone. Anyone without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the venue.
- Share the livestream link with your loved ones who can’t attend in person.
- Familiarise yourself with parking at your venue. There is signed accessible parking available close to the venue and a set-down area for dropping people off at the entry. Parking information for each venue can be found below.

- As you cross the stage, you will ‘doff’ the Chancellor. You can practise this before the day by watching our ‘How to Doff’ video.
