Overview

  • Become a problem solver and explore the social and psychological factors behind why people commit crime. You’ll learn about society’s responses to crime and many of the factors that challenge whether these responses are effective. 
  • Delve into forensic and criminal psychology and gain knowledge about the complexities of victimisation. 
  • Develop a competitive edge for the employment market. Make the most of the flexibility of a UniSQ’s Arts degree and combine your criminology and criminal justice studies with courses in psychology, legal studies and social justice.
  • Discover the intricacies of the relationship between crime, justice and the media or young people and the juvenile justice system.

You can progress your study to further specialise with the Bachelor of Arts (Honours).

Career outcomes

  • Apply your knowledge to the criminal justice system, child protection, crime research, strategic planning and development, security, or the police force. You could also work in community corrections, border security, policy development, juvenile justice or research. 
  • Studying criminology in a B.A. or a Bachelor of Criminology provides strong understanding of the criminal justice system and criminology principles, and alongside a second major strengthens your employability, and, depending on the major, opens up many career opportunities.
 

Entry requirements

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C) 

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
