Overview

  • This major enables you to comprehend and utilise the languages of music, investigate musical cultures, and interact with pertinent theoretical concepts that facilitate communication among musicians and between musicians and their audiences.
  • You will examine musical literature and communication, musicology, the music industry, genres and branding, as well as project creation and execution.
  • This major provides you with the skills and knowledge necessary for careers in contemporary performance, education (with additional study), and community settings.
  • Combine your music specialization with a Creative Writing major or choose from a wide array of minors across several disciplines.

Career outcomes

  • As a graduate of this degree, your potential roles include music producer, sound engineer, music journalist, and public relations specialist for music artists or organisations.
  • You may find your skills are suitable for a career as an event manager, music marketer, or social media manager within the music industry.
  • Additionally, opportunities exist in music education (with further study) and community arts programs, or in performance. These careers leverage skills in communication, project management, and an understanding of musical cultures and markets.

Entry requirements

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C) 

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
