  • Shape your career with your creative talents to activate positive change and generate wellbeing in diverse communities with UniSQ’s Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing (Theatre).
  • You will combine foundation studies in human services with courses in, for example, educational theatre, community theatre, and acting for the digital medium to expand your creativity, facilitation and leadership skills, and understanding of the needs of community care and development.
  • Become industry-ready by undertaking a project placement in a community organisation during your final year of study.
  • UniSQ welcomes applications in the form of an interview and audition for students without an ATAR. Read more below under 'degree structure'.

Career outcomes

  • Graduates will have the necessary skills to collaborate with health providers, local governments, and community organisations and undertake arts-led service initiatives.
  • Work in the creative industries and apply your talents and abilities in other areas like community services (youth, indigenous, aged, refugee, homeless, unemployed, disability etc.), hospitals/allied health, correctional services, local government, and charity organisations.

ATAR The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a percentile rank used to assess the results of high-school applicants for undergraduate entry into university. 60.00 55.45
  • To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in English (Units 3 & 4, C). We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.
  • Attend an interview with selected creative arts discipline staff to confirm satisfactory capacity to participate in practical courses. 
  • If no ATAR, applicants can successfully undertake an audition/interview with portfolio and supply a written statement.

Audition and interview information

Applicants will need to bring:

  • a head shot-style photo
  • a school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved
  • a portfolio of previous achievements relevant to the discipline major. Be prepared to discuss those achievements and experiences with the interview panel.
  • If you don't have an ATAR, please bring a written statement (500 words) addressing your interests, goals and aspirations in studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing, with some reflection on your previous performing arts/theatre experiences and training.

Note: It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing. Tafe (VET) qualification

If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

Work and life experience

You may be able to use your work experience and other adjustment factors to increase your selection rank and meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study UniSQ's UniReady courses TPP0122 and TPP0123, or the English for Academic Purposes EAP2 pathway program through the Union Institute of Language (UIL).

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

If you identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent you may be eligible to enter the Indigenous Higher Education (IHEPP) program.

*The second 8-unit major can be chosen from any approved 8-unit major in another discipline in the School of Creative Arts (e.g. Music, Visual Art, TV/Radio, Film Production etc.) or from a recommended major outside of the creative arts, such as Child and Family Studies, Health and Social Wellbeing, or Community Development and Indigenous Studies, providing all entry requirements are met.

Professional experience

As part of the degree, you will need to complete professional experience placements. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional practice within this degree.
