  • Linked to the UniSQ world-class research centre in Agricultural Engineering, and with emphasis on modern and sustainable engineering concepts, you will develop the skills to tackle complex agricultural problems and apply engineering solutions.
  • Your courses will connect engineering problems with the UN’s sustainable development goals to ensure your engineering practices have positive influences on society and the environment.
  • Explore plant and animal production systems, water supply and water distribution analysis, surveying, field design, and assessing engineering assets or processes to inform maintenance and advancement decisions.
  • All students come on campus to study a few hands-on, practical residential school courses, but otherwise you can choose to study the main course load online or on campus to suit your needs.
  • Project-based courses and 60 days of placements integrate your learning with industry to provide practical experience and to support your career development. For your final year research project you will have to opportunity to put your knowledge to the test in a project suited to your interests.

Professional accreditation

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will be eligible to apply for graduate membership with Engineers Australia as a Graduate Professional Engineer. After gaining experience working in your field in industry, you can apply for Stage 1 Professional Engineer (MIEAust), and after this for chartered status as a Professional Engineer (CPEng); and with extensive career experience Executive Engineer (ExecEng) accreditation. You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in the countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

When you become an experienced MIEAust, you can apply for RPEQ or other Australian State legislated registration schemes, or as a chartered professional engineer be similarly accredited (RPEQ etc.) and apply for Australian National Engineering Registration.

Career outcomes

  • With Toowoomba at the epicentre of the Darling Downs’ agriculture and farming industries; UniSQ will provide the advantage of industry knowledge and understanding to give you the expertise that will open up a range of challenging careers and experience to you.
  • With a huge shortage in skilled Agricultural professionals, you have the potential to secure a position as a professional engineer, agricultural scientist, or sales and support consultant, and work in a challenging, but influential area of the engineering world.
  • Agricultural engineers work in a range of settings including private industry, government departments such as water supply, agriculture, forestry, soil conservation and environment protection agencies, as well as private engineering firms and research agencies.
